Lets visit the Limestone Coast.

On today's agenda, we will discuss some of the top spots to visit on the Limestone Coast - Many of which are located in my hometown, Mount Gambier.

UMPHERSTON SINKHOLE

One of my personal favourite places to visit when I travel back home is seeing this beautiful sunken garden. Stunning views from the platforms at the top of the sinkhole, but immerse yourself walking down into the sinkhole, within the hanging vines and garden beds. Plenty of room to bring a picnic rug or utilise the BBQ facilities within the sinkhole. If you find yourself there at dusk - you'll see some of the local colony of possums (they enjoy being fed fruit - no bread!).

The Umpherston Sinkhole was once a limestone cave formed by the erosion of limestone rock by sea waves and formed naturally as the roof of the cave collapsed. Being located just a few minutes off the main streets of Mount Gambier, the cave is super accessible and is open 24/7.

MOUNT GAMBIER BLUE LAKE

With its vibrant blue colour - the Blue Lake is without a doubt, a must-see attraction in Mount Gambier - it's considered one of the most unique and breathtaking attractions on the limestone coast. It is located on one of the dormant volcanic craters of mount gambier. The Blue Lake offers a 3.6km walking trail - with viewing platforms located around the lake. If you are interested to know more about the history of the lake, you can participate in a Guided Aquifer Tour which takes you down to the pumping station where you can learn more and see the lake from a closer viewing platform.

CAVE GARDENS

Located in the centre of the town, the Cave Garden is home to a sinkhole that was once the original source of water for the early settlers. Each night there are Aboriginal Dreamtime stories played over a light show and if you visit in the wet weather - you will have the bonus of a gushing waterfall pouring into the sinkhole.

LITTLE BLUE LAKE

A hidden local gem - Little Blue Lake is often overseen by tourists but is a local hotspot in the summer as a popular swimming spot. Located in Mount Schank - roughly 15 minutes out of Mount Gambier lives a volcanic sinkhole (yes, another sinkhole!) in the middle of nowhere filled with beautiful natural water! If you plan to swim at this spot - be careful as the shallowest point is a depth of 25 meters! For the daredevils, there are a few spots around the lake where swimmers like to cliff jump!

NARACOORTE CAVES

Naracoorte Caves is South Australia's only heritage site and one of the world's most important fossil sites. With 5 different caves open to the public to explore and many fossils on display, adventure caving, an adventure playground, above-ground loop walks, and on-ground facilities, Naracoorte caves are inclusive and they offer an experience for everyone to enjoy.  Entry into the Naracoorte Caves Nation Park is free but tour prices range from $10.50 - $128.

WALK UP CENTENARY TOWER TRAIL

The very steep but relatively short Mountain train hike to Centenary Tower offers stunning views of Mount Gambier, the nearby valley lakes and the famous Blue Lake.

COONAWARRA WINE REGION

Coonawarra is a top destination for lovers of bold, red wine. The Coonawarra is home to over 25 cellar doors all scattered along Riddoch Highway. The relaxed countryside  wine region is a popular destination to take a wine tour though the endless vines, world-class food and wine experiences, all with a picturesque landscape to enjoy.

LARRY THE LOBSTER

"Larry" The big lobster located in Kingston SE is the 17 meter high tourist attraction to keep your spirits up on a road trip. Build in 1979 the fibreglass and steel lobster is a popular photo spot for tourists!

GHOST MUSHROOM LANE

Looking for something to do on the cold winter nights? Well, look no further. Ghost Mushroom Lane is a seasonal forest tourism experience located near Glencoe. The experience is only available in May and June, during the annual Ghost Mushroom season. Put some jackets on and turn the torch on to walk on the trail where you can see green glowing mushrooms!

KILSBY SINKHOLE

Just 14km south of Mount Gambier you will find the very unique Kilsby Sinkhole located on a sheep farm.  With crystal clear water, book a snorkel tour at one of the worlds best sinkhole diving sites. Equipment provided and an industry certified guide - Kilsby Sinkhole welcomes those with all kinds of experience - from snorkelers, freedivers or Scuba divers.

Thats all for this weeks post! I hope you enjoy and thankyou all for the ongoing support!

Let me know in the comments if you have ever been to some of these cool places! I think they are all so unique and very special!
